Someone asked recently how I made my backdrop, so, since I'm still working on it, I thought I'd post some pictures of some of the steps I use...
I start out with a plain blue "sky", starting with blue paint at the top, white at the bottom, and using a wet brush, blending them together...

Then I pick some printed buildings (these are from Walthere's - reduced 50% for N scale) cut them out with a hobby knife, & positioning, & repositioning things, figure out where I want them to go... I lightly mark their position with a pencil, (draw vertical lines with a level to make sure they're straight) then I glue them to the backdrop, using an all purpose flooring adhesive.
Voila! Floating buildings!

Then I keep positioning every thing to see how I like it...
Here I've got a couple of shallow structures, a flat wall section, & some various tanks... I haven't finished detailing, & nothing is permanently fastened down yet, but it gives me an idea of what will work, & what won't...
