I know this has been mentioned before but
I have just used the googone + old T-shirt
method of track cleaning..

OMG!.. The rails (even after running my masonite
pad cleaning car) we BLACK :(. My locomotives
run smoother than I imagined. :D :D :D

So just wanted to recommend this method again
to anyone thats interested

Without getting another long thread going, I have found that using a sanding pad has done well for me. I didn't have any goop, I do have lots of T shirts, and I had one of those sponge like rectangle pads with two different grades of sandpaper attached. I use the lightest grade and barely run it over the track to clean paint and glue off of. It's nice because the skinny side hanges over the edges of the track by about a 1/4"in, in HO.
