The Gallery basics

The Gallery is a separate section of the Gauge just for pictures and comments about them. It is just a collection of albums, called "categories", some created by the Gauge staff for viewing only, others created by members. Each member may have more than one category of their own. For example, you might want one to show the progress of your layout, another to show pictures that you've taken of prototype equipment and still another to show off details of your finely weathered rolling stock. These are just examples, you have an unlimited number of categories you can open, and an unlimited number of pictures you can upload to them.

If you are a member of the Gauge, you can store as many pictures as you like. Bare in mind, this is a train site and we are expecting your photos to be somehow related to this subject. We also expect you to adhere to all the rules for posting here.

This is a step-by-step to allow members to open their own member's category (or album) in the Gallery, then the steps necessary to post to a category once it's created.

Now these first seven steps, in yellow, take you through the procedure to open a new category:

These steps (in blue) show you two ways to upload your pictures once you have a category to put them in. Step 10 shows you how to upload them one at a time. Steps 10A and 10B allow you to upload five at a time.

Before you upload, note that the requirements are a bit different than uploading to a post in the forum. You're file size can be as large as 2 meg and picture size is limited to 800 x 600 pixels. Just remember, the larger the file, the longer it will take to load on someone's computer and they may opt to skip those that are too large, especially those with dial up.
