Thank you for that Skyseeker! :) No, I have not yet seen a model of the Rising Star, but that would be another awesome addition to the available fleet. Another one I'd like to see is the Eastern Alliance Destroyer from the "Greetings from Earth" episode. I'd even love to see it in miniature, since in that episode it could fit into the Galactica's landing bay. Above is a little pic I found.:tank:

image.jpg Found this little gem several months ago on Amazon, I often listen to it while working on my models. Helps me get into the groove! ;):robot1:

    Chad,

Yeah the eastern alliance ships were pretty cool! It would have been neat to see them "try" to attack the Galactica with full fighter escort.:)

Too bad the series was cancelled before they could really explore that feature.:(

    Oh well..

    Thanks for sharing the pic.:)

The Eastern Alliance would have been destroyed, but could have taken out many fleet ships, which would have been very problematic. I too wish that was explored more. I found pics of a resin model that used to be sold, not available, not sure if that's permanent, but the resin kit ws $80 bucks, and is a lot, a real lot, for a resin model.

    Some interesting facts I found:
"Featured in the Battlestar Galactica (Original Series) episodes "Greetings from Earth," "Baltar's Escape" and "Experiment in Terra," the "Stazi-Class" Destroyer is a compact warship operated by the planet Terra's "Eastern Alliance," which is at war with that same planet's "Western Coalition."
Small enough to be housed in a battlestar's landing bay, the Destroyer is crewed by a Commanding Officer and six crewmen. Although its firepower is limited, it uses "swarm attacks" to overwhelm much larger adversaries.

The Destroyer is a classic example of late 1970's era "kit-bashing." The trend was started in the late 1960s when articles on the making of Stanley Kubrick's 1968 "2001: A Space Odyssey" revealed that SPFX director Douglas Trumball's team had used parts of plastic model kits to texture many of the movie's breathtaking miniatures. Immediately, cash-strapped SPFX artists began to employ the same technique, not only detailing their ships with plastic model parts but sometimes building filming miniatures out of nothing but model kits pieces. The Eastern Alliance Destroyer is an example of such a "kit-bash,", the main body clearly composed of a repurposed F-15 fighter."

The F-15 is so obvious, but on the other hands shows with all the free paper F-15's out there, this could be built the same way, again, just by looking at pictures that I posted, and the others all over
    the web, and some imagination.

EEK - don't take the Fantastic Plastic model for reference! It is not quite right. Rather look at the original miniature which you may see here:

    http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=13924

Steven's blueprint is awesome and can be used as a guide. The EAD is on my todo list, however, I am unable to tackle it at the moment because of the many WIPs I still have to finish. Sorry! :)

Rogério, Rhaven and I have been working on the EAD mesh by David Kerin. It does not look exactly like the original model but its texture is so nice that we have decided to turn it into a kit and call it the "Kerin class EAD". We have encountered some bugs in the design but it should not be difficult to eliminate them. So, if you are interested, I could revise the parts in question and send you the package along with instructions and build pics. Here are some pics:

BTW, I have the Intrada CD - It's gorgeous. I got it when it first came out - for 16.95 € with free shipping (in Germany, quite a sensation!)! Unfortunately the later volumes are very scarce and expensive as hell. I could have grabbed volume 4, too, but I was too lazy, so I'll have to live with the sound bits from the Intrada site (which is not bad since several of them run a few minutes). They also have released marvellous albums from "Buck Rogers", "The Black Hole" and "Condorman" (the car of which is on my list, too:

I finally have been able to steal a few moments to continue work on Revell-Fan's Colonial Movers.(still in the middle of a house remodel & moving) Just picking up where I left off. The small pieces in the first pic are 4 of the number 12 parts. The 2nd & 3rd pics are of part 14 & it's approximate positioning. Pic 4 is the 4 number 12 parts & their positions. It's not much, but hope to post some more soon. :) image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

You are off to a good start.
I can see where a ton of greebling can be done!

Thanks! Yeah, when I first started, I was having a hard time seeing where I could add extra greebles in addition to the original model parts (It's already a very detailed model) .But, now that it's starting to come together, I can see several places where I could add quite a bit. I'm open to suggestions on spots to add greebles, in case I miss any! :)

    Great start! :)

I guess you are assembling the small version?

As for the greeblies: You have no idea how many parts I had to add to make it look like the real one. There are still a few areas which bother me such as the texture (the number of the ribs of the containers is still too small but I was unable to add more because that would have required a complete re-texturing). The antenna thingie was the last thing I added. I thought about adding more greeblies but then came a point when I told myself, enough is enough (or the model will NEVER see the light of the day). :)

BTW, the prominent font used for the markings is fairly old and was used in advertising a lot. It is called "Dyer-Font". You can find it for free on many font download sites.

I think the Resin kit I posted is closer to what's above. That looks nice, but nothing at all like the E.A. ship.

    Fantastic Plastic:

    [IMG] [IMG]

These are pretty close. One could think of different generations of the same ship. When you post a complete redesign, well, let's just say "Eek" is a bit over the top. The "Fantastic Plastic" interpretation has far more similar than dissimilar. The Render you posted is "fan fiction", and really has very little in common with the original EAD ship. That could just as well be an early Klingon ship. once you go off the fantasy route, then it's just playing around. I wouldn't buy the fantastic plastic, but the original was made using F-15 body pieces and kit bashed together. When you look at the Fantastic Plastic", you see an Eastern Alliance Destroyer. That does much for the model. Don't you think? Exactly as the original in the series, no, but better than what anyone else has come up with yet, IMHO. :)

    That's true! :)

Well, actually the "Eek" belonged to the pictures which were posted. If you make a new model you should always refer to the original one, not to a tiny resin kit with simplified (and partially very badly made) detail: Just look at the head, the most distinctive part of the plane; it looks very weird. The engines look strange and bulky, too. I understand that you posted the pics of the FP model just for inspiration, and there's nothing against it. However, I wanted to stress that a new model should not be based on this one in order not to copy its flaws. ;)

You do have a point. :)

    I agree! :)

Thank you all for the support! Really frustrated that I haven't had much time to put into these builds lately. I've been scrambling to finish up our house remodel so we can get moved back in to it. On a time crunch so we can get out of our current house to get it sold. & trying to get it all done with a seriously messed up back & neck. Hope to be back in full swing soon, but will post some progress pics on the Colonial Movers as I can steal some more moments working on her.:)

I concur with Rhaven! Make your wife happy first otherwise no one - not you, not the kids, not the pets not anyone is going to be happy until the "nest" is back in order. Don't forget to duck! Take care my friend and good luck with the move. :)
