Just to add to what Ralph has said in the "Kiln" thread, we have over the last two days deleted about 20 spam messages that were tacked on the end of that thread. Most of them were adult in nature selling movies and pictures, some were the usual, cell phones and other electronics. Our decision to lock that thread was for that and only that reason. Ralph has started a new thread in hopes that you continue posting to that interesting and informative thread.

The spammers are getting more cleaver, there's software out there that they can purchase for about $400 that does all of this automatically. It allows them to register, verify registration and post messages on thousands of forums. We have detected a pattern and as a result, have also either banned or isolated another 50 or so potential or actual spammers that have registered here in just the past three days. They continue to flood in, we continue to fight them. Let's hope it just the Christmas rush that's got their juices flowing.

Again, we ask you to report any spam you find here by clicking on the "report this post" icon in the lower left of each post screen. Please do not respond to their posts, and do not follow their links.

We regret any inconvenience this is causing you, our trusted members and friends, but we're doing what we can to keep a step ahead of these miscreants of nature.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

The Gauge staff.

It is a shame that no one has invented software that would allow the admins to hit the reply button and fry the hard drive of the spammer's computer! I realise that is an extreme response, but sometimes we just need to vent.

Josh, thanks for the tip. There are a few that we've found from that ISP, but many are using yahoo, gmail and other free email servers, all at the recommendation of the software that they are using to spam us. :curse: :curse: Sometime we think we can ban an ISP then find we have a real member or two that uses that ISP and we don't want to sacrifice anyone else in the process.

Russ, It would be great, but realize, many of these originate from some innocent block that has failed to protect their computer properly with firewalls and AV and other guards.... hmmmm, maybe they are so innocent after all.
