Space Shuttle R.I.P.(1981-2012)

So this is my first post of something I have made. It is an Atlantis Shuttle from the AXM site. It was fun to build but I did it in two 4-hour chunks and got burnt out. I swore I would never touch an x-acto knife again. I have recovered and have gotten out my cardstock again. It is technically my first paper model and it definitely has flaws but I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

 You built a model that takes people (like me) weeks, in two 8 hours "chunks", No wonder why you got burnt out!! Those models are excellent. I think you could do anything you want. I have built this Lotus Europa many times and given it away to the children of friends of mine. It is easy, FREE, and looks really good when done. Something totally different that might interest you. All the models at this site are FREE and all are great, especially the Lotus, and the Bi-planes. If you take the time to cut out the wheel interiors, and make realistic ones (it comes with the option of PanaSport rims) the model really pops. I have been tempted to make the doors open, the interior looks that good. Scroll all the way down for the Europa, or use the direct link.

Dr. Floyd: Your shuttle looks GREAT. The only flaws that I see are the white edges.
You did an AMAZING job on it (considering your turbo build).
I am glad that you did not totally give up on paper modeling.

Zathros: that is a BEAUTIFUL car, Thank you for the link.

What are some good techniques for eliminating the white edges?

I use water colours (that way you can easily mix the colour that you need) and a very fine paint brush to lightly paint the edges before gluing everything together.

Please go through this thread: http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=172433

I used this technique for the builds in this thread.

Good luck with it. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Great job, for a first model you can be very proud. I tend to model in spurts myself, gung ho and all out for a couple weeks and then I need a rest as well. But it is always fun to return to modeling after a break.

Good luck with your future models.
