In April this year, I visited Korea on tour. One of the last places we visited was the gigantic Korean War museum in Seoul. It was very impressive. Sourth Koreans paid a tremendous price in blood during the war and this is a monument to that traumatic period of their history.

The museum was admittedly not that interesting to many of the wives, but I recommend that anyone visiting Korea visit it if they can. Enclosed are a first installment of some of the pictures I took.

Korean school children are very well behaved. Older high school girls were eager to speak with foreigners to practice their English.

More pictures of some of the galleries.

Some photos mainly of models in the naval gallery, which was my main interest. Sorry, some of the photos are blurry as I was in a hurry as the group was going through the museum at a much faster pace than I was.

Yet another group of ship model photos. I will be posting a few more later along with photos of the outdoor displays.

The interior shots are very interesting. Especially the oculus.

Go to this site to read the story of No Kum-Sok, the pilot of that very Mig 15 at the Seoul Korean War Museum. The guy is still somewhat of a national hero. I lived three years in Seoul and the museum at that time (mid-late 80s) was just a ramshackle collection of buildings and artifacts near Kimpo airfield. It's nice to see the SKs taking pride in their history.

Steve O: I was impressed myself with the architecture (exterior & interior).
Cdavenport: Didn't know the Mig had a history. Interesting. Korea has really developed a lot since the 1980's when I last visited Seoul for a couple of days. It is a very nice place to visit.

    And a few more photos:

Last 2. Hope some of you get the chance to visit this place. It is well worth visiting for those interested in military equipment or the Korean War or Korean military history. I photographed only a small part of what I saw and I did not have time to walk through all the exhibition galleries. It is a very impressive monument to all the Koreans who died or lived through the Korean War.
