S.M.S. Emden, HMV, rescaled 1:200, self designed hull

Hi friends,

today I start a new project although the Schleswig Holstein is not finished. That´s because I have to design the hull of the model by myself.

In one of my books about the Kaiserliche Marine I found a drawing of the Emden´s bulkheads. First I rescaled the kit up to 1:200, next step was to scan the drawing and calibrate it to the width if the models formers (I hope you understand what I mean, if not ask me or give me hints to improve my english....).
I think with these help it will work.

The book and the first prints of the bulkheads.........

some images from the design process....................

wooow, there are some problems with imageshak, so I add the pics later......wall1

Yes, that is one nicely shaped hull "skeleton".
I'll bet it will look fantastic with a skin on it.
Nice curves!

So, Flu, this is a waterline model that you are converting to a full-hull model? Very interesting, indeed.

I always liked the Emden and its story.

the skeleton...........

Hi friends,

that´s the whole skeleton, for me it looks good. Everything fits well so far.......

I hope the rescaled parts will fit in the same way !!

the first parts of the underwater hull

Hi folks,

after finishing the SX yesterday, I stated with the first parts to cover the underwater hull.
After that I will paint it with alkyd color. I think it will be necessary to grind after that.
Anyway, now have a look for the method I used..........

the first part, notice the gluestrips:

and the second so far...........fits nice

with complexer curves I used transparent paper to get the shape

than transfer the shape to cardboard

the last pics for the next three weeks.......

Dear Friends,

although there was not so much time for modeling ( today I had to prepare my caravan) I started with the rest of the hull..........and the first gun.
The gun is made of nearly 30 !! parts. I used no EP´s (because of rescaling....)

So guys, enjoy the pics and don´t forget me :thumb:

Great! Then you have to stick it in that little hole ;) Whats an EP?

Say, how many guns do you need, anyway?

Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Very good job on the hull and the gun mounting.
