I have many #6 remote Atlas Switches I bought approx. 20 yrs ago, some still in boxes. LHS tells me Atlas refined their switches around 1993. Do the newer ones work better than the older? I'm looking for reliability. Also how about using shorter switches in yards? Before I buy I would like your input as I'm building a new layout. Thanks

I have some that are pre 1990 and they work well. What do you intend to run on your layout. Steamers have a tendancy to want all track and switches exact, due mainly to the depth of flanges. This may make you have some problems with the older switches. With 27 of these older switches I find Diesels have no problem with them.

The new ones are much better than the old ones. My old layout had the old ones and the points would always get dirty and not conduct electricity. The points were made of a cast zinc, terrible for electrical contact. You can't even solder feeds to them. The new one have been on my layout for about 8 years and not one bit of trouble.
