question about maker

All my engines were bought at shows and are "previously owned" none of them have any writing ,so how do I tell who made them? so ,say I wanted parts, I'm guessing they'er Athearn ,

Hey..!! There are more than a few members here who are really knowledgeable when it comes to model engines (I'm not one of them...). If you were to post some pictures I'm sure someone can tell you who the maker is (was) and when it was built.

The easiest way is to post pics here, if there's no identifying marks. Ususally, though, there's a stamp or something on the fuel tank or bottom of the trucks.

Different manufacturers put their locos together differently, and once you've played around with them enough, you get so you can identify whose is whose...

... in the meantime, post some pics. I love playing "Name that loco!" :)
