I'm modelling a unique engine based on a prototype. It's an Alco switcher with AAR trucks on the front and Blunt trucks at the rear. I have a P2K S3 with AAR trucks, and I'm thinking of picking up a second unit, an S1 which has Blunt trucks.

My question is this: is it possible to swap out one set of trucks for another and if so, how do you do it. The P2K S3 in question is the DCC model. The S1 I'm thinking of buying is not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, here's the prototype I want to model.

I love that old CP maroon/grey with yellow striping colour scheme. That's a nice looking switcher. I wish I could answer your question though. Good luck with your proto-typing.

Hi Val,
Did your S3 come with a parts list and exploded view?
If so I would compare it to one from an S1 to see if it is the same drive.
If it is, swaping the side frames would be the easiest way to go.
Carefully removing the bottom cover on the truck will allow the sideframes to pull out. The bearing contact bar should not have to be changed and should slide off the sideframe.
The general truck design is similar to this P2K SD9 I rebuilt , The photos may help give an idea how they come apart.
