Can anyone tell me if there is advantages using PWM (pulse width modulation) controllers over the standard variable voltage controllers?

Woodie, Using a pulse modulated throttle makes older open frame motors behave in a better fashion, they lock onto the motor. Standard throttles just supply what I call lose power. The modern motors of today do not need a modulated throttle, especially the Kato and Atlas motors.
Also, using a pulse throttle makes motors run far too hot.

Shamus, thanks for the info. Don't DCC decoders use PWM?
