Here are some pictures on what I consider the my greatest day railfaning. NS shut down their mainline between Roanoke and Radford and played with their trains. The A was pulling 50 empty hoppers and the J was pulling 19 cars.

I like both those locos. I never saw them in action, even on the steam specials.
When I went to the Roanoke museum, 611 had been taken away for refurbishing, but 1218 was there. It was a very relaxed museum; they suggested that I crawl all over anything. Even got inside GG1 and E unit.
