Peco switch machines

Hey guys-

What's the difference between the regular Peco switch motor (PE-PL10), the one with the extended pin (PE-PL10E) or the high performance (PE-PL10-W) machines? I'm going to need 2 of these in my hidden staging yard- I haven't laid the track yet, so I'm thinking the extended pin version isn't needed.

Thanks!

I've never had a high performance machine. (for low amp applications)
The extended pin is for those of us who mount the machine under the roadbed. The standard design was intended to be mounted hanging from the switch but this needed a big hole in the roadbed. Peco used to include a pin extender so that you could drill a "small" hole in the roadbed and mount the machine to the bottom (I use 1/2" Homasote). The extended pin is a bit more solid than the extender.
However you do it, you still have to clip a bit of the pin where it sticks up throught the tie bar.
In a hidden yard, you might get away with a surface mount (part PL12 available a small extra cost.)
