Yes. it is a very viable alternative to photoetch. One plus is that you can draw sagging "rails" between the posts to depict chain-and-post railings that I haven't seen captured with photoetched railings and accurately place scale locations for the posts. Use the transparency sheets for inkjet printers....regular Xerox-type transparency film doesn't accept ink. I'm using them for railings, bedspring radar arrays, cranes, etc. I haven't tried it yet, but the technique should work for aircraft canopies as well.
