None of the 90's got wings, though several *did* get the *apparently TOO hastily applied* "We will Deliver" slogan starting around 1996 or so after the SP merger. One afternoon in 1997 or '98, I had to hostle some UP power out of the way of our motors at West Oakland (when I worked at Amtrak) and one was a FILTHY SD90MAC with the slogan on the side, so I added "Eventually!" after the "We Will Deliver" slogan in the grime on both sides in huge letters. UP just couldn't catch a break at that time, with the service issues, which were largely a result of the SP mentality and spite on the part of former SP employees. It was disheartening to see my family railroad struggle like UP was then. My little added attempt at humor on the side of that locomotive probably didn't help, I'm sure.

Yeah, I feel kinda bad now, I grew up with and on the UP, and it and the Wp will always be "family" to my family, but I was pretty put off and disgusted with the mentality and foul attitude of the SP guys (and still run into that crap here and there on the old SP lines)

Deano, I never knew you that you could get infected with a cold over the internet, but now that I read that you are having a cold it feels like I am getting one myself sign1.

Your dinner train will be extremely beautiful and the CPA16-4 looks like the perfect engine to pull it. BTW I have never seen that model before, who made it? Inspired by your beautiful new engine, I looked around a bit and found a site with some pics of FM C-liners. Among them A-B-C sets of MILW #24 and #27. You probably know these pics already, so I am posting the link just in case... http://www.divisionpoint.com/FM_Cs.html

Hi Deano---that dinner train is going to look great, especially with those FM diesels---the CNR used these locomotives in both passenger and freight service---built by the Canadian Locomotive Works in Kingston Ontario they were very similar to their American sisters

"What is that trailing unit?" I thought. A CN PA... not the first time I've seen that as a fantasy unit. I think the other one I saw was in sergeant stripes, though.

Hello Everyone---Deano,hope you don't mind if I add another picture in response to Triplex's inquiry---CNR #9078 is indeed a PA unit which in reality never existed in this paint scheme on the CNR---It's true 2 PA's were used as demonstrators on a trial basis (and in a different green/gold colour scheme),but CN chose not to keep them. When Proto 2000 came out with this model,I asked my friend Doctor Wayne to create this fantasy unit---too bad CN didn't keep them and paint them in their classic passenger scheme,I think they would have looked great on the head end of CN's premier passenger trains

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...

    RAIL FANNING...
i am NOT a happy camper:madd: , let me explain...i had thought about heading to Janesville this morning, but i didn't make it to bed till about 3:30am last night, then it was cold as heck out today, high of 34, so i opted not to make the trip to Janesville, and decided to just stay here in my own back yard. i headed over to ICE's "West yard", and what did i see, ICE's #4207 "City of S. Beloit", in South Beloit!:thumb::mrgreen: , not another engine or obstruction by it, there it was all alone, i was so darn happy i couldn't believe it, so i walked around the whole engine taking about 20-30 shots of it..."YES!, I HAVE GOOD SHOTS OF THIS ENGINE!!!:thumb::mrgreen: ", well, thats what i thought...as i was about to leave dads tonight i pulled my camera out to show dad the shots i took:mrgreen: , PROBLEM, ONLY FOUR SHOTS OF IT SHOWED UP ON MY CAMERA:eeki: :eeki: , how could this be? , i took 20-30 shots of this engine from every angle.

OK, i know what you folks are thinking, "well Deano, you obviously accidentally erased some of them", sorry folks, thats TOTALLY NOT the case, for one thing it takes three steps to erase ANY pics from my camera, so that excuse is just NOT possible:cry: , i am so miffed as to how i lost the rest of the pics:confused: , needless to say, i am NOT happy:frowns: . i am considering going back tomorrow to try and get more shots of it, but the chances of it being there, and being unobstructed by any other objects are really slim:frowns: , we'll see what happens. below are two of the four shots that showed up on my camera.

    PROTO 2000 H10-44...
As you folks probably remember, i have a NEW CNW H10-44 with QSI, and i just bought a NEW H10-44 Milwaukee road engine without sound, that i planned on putting a sound decoder in, and putting my orange and black Milwaukee Road shell on that frame:winki: .
last night i swapped the two Milwaukee Road H10-44 shells out without to many problems, and went to install the sound decoder, PROBLEM, remember how easy it used to be to install sound decoders in P2K DCC ready engines, their circuit boards were real nice, and the install took less time then taking the shell off:thumb: , WELL THOSE DAYS ARE GONE:eeki: , at least they are with P2K's H10-44's, the circuit board in that engine NOW is almost exactly like Athearns "DCC ready" circuit boards:eeki: , PURE JUNK!:madd:

i have wrote SEVERAL posts on Athearns "DCC ready" circuit boards, they are just a joke, and sadly, the joke is on us because their boards ARE NOT plug and play:cry: , well P2K's FANTASTIC true plug-n-play boards might now be a thing of the past, they followed Athearns 3 step backwards "lead" and are the same:madd: . DON'T GET ME WRONG, i have hardwired so many sound decoders in it really wasn't a big deal:rolleyes: , but i was expecting an easy 3min install, and ended up doing an Athearn type install on it, you know, cut the circuit board out and chuck it right in the trash, then hardwire the sound decoder in.
i guess P2K is just doing what every brand does, when something works absolutely FANTASTIC, change it into junk, then call it "new and improved":roller::roller::roller: . (pic below of the Milwaukee Road shell i put on that motor and frame)

    HIAWATHA PASSENGER CARS...
I ran them on dads layout today, wholly smokes those are some REAL NICE CARS!:thumb::thumb: it says 24r is recommended, but they do work on 22r too:thumb: , but don't even think about running them on 18r, the couplers are to close.

    GERN of Southern WI...
in lew of all the action the "GERN Modelers" thread has been getting, i have started to get back to work on finishing my GERN:thumb::mrgreen: , i hope to have some progress pics up by next weekend:winki: .

    PK1 sound decoder install...
i am ordering a sound decoder for my FM CPA16 tonight, and plan on taking pics of every step of the install:thumb: , its going to be hardwired in, I'll post the install as soon as i get the sound decoder:winki: .

    Till next time...Stay on track:winki:

    ICE cold...

The first ICE units I ever saw, were a couple of years ago, when I visited Iowa, to see my terminally ill sister. The units I saw were all painted white, and looked like they had been salvadged from a junkyard! Not nearly as pretty as the ones you saw!

Todd, Jim, sgtcarl & Gus, I'm GLAD you guys liked the ICE pics:thumb::mrgreen: .

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...
For the first time in the last 3 months i ended up having to work every night this week, and TODAY, good for the wallet:mrgreen: , but bad for modeling:frowns: . i had big plans to work on my GERN this week, but by the time i got off work i was so darn bushed i didn't end up doing ANY modeling this week. i am sure i will have to do overtime at work till Wednesday next week too, but i should have a four day weekend to get back up to speed on my GERN:winki: .

I ordered an FM Loksound decoder from Tony's last week for my Proto 1000 FM CPA1600, i hope it comes in before Thanksgiving. As i mentioned before, i will be "hardwiring" it in, and i will be doing a tutorial on it:thumb: .

My Walther's order came in this week, boy am i glad i didn't receive it all because some of the items were out of stock, what a blessing. Bowser came out with the 100 ton hoppers, i thought GREAT, there are TONS of these in South Beloit, so Ill get a few, PROBLEM, i didn't realize the Bowser hoppers only had three discharges on the bottom:oops: ...

the UP hoppers in South Beloit have four discharges on the bottom, good thing i didn't get a bunch of them, they only had one in stock, so thats all i got:119: .

When i got out of work today it was cold as:eek: ..., but i was determined to get some local shots, i headed to ICE's yard and by gosh, there was "The City of S. Beloit", IN SOUTH BELOIT:thumb: . i ended up getting a lot of good shots of it, here are three of the shots i took...

after i left ICE's "West yard" i headed to UP's sidings in the industrial area, i ended up freezing my...backside off:toug: walking about two blocks distance taking TONS of pics of UP's covered hoppers, GREAT shots to help me weather my growing number of unweathered hoppers:winki: , here are two extremes, and i have pics of every stage in between.

I took two shots of "Fallen Flag" hoppers, I'll post them in the Fallen Flag Freight thread later:thumb: .

I went to the Folks house after that, and dad and i ended up running some trains:mrgreen: , the first two pics are for Gus:winki: , he asked about pics of my Hiawatha passenger cars, my dads F7 is currently pulling that train till i get my FM Loksound decoder, and install it.

Here are pics of my CNW FM H10-44...

and here is a shot of MY CNW H10-44 and dads CNW Alco RS27...

A shot of my Veranda Gas Turbine:twisted: ...

Thats about it for now:smilie: ,
