If I want to build a ladder type yard in DC, do I have to wire each track extending from the first switch? I am basically asking that if I have 13 tracks, will I need 13 power supplies. OR, will power be supplied when the switch is thrown?

Hi...Depends on what type of turnouts you have - electrofrog or insulfrog....If insulfrog (also called "power routing"), yes, power will be routed to the track which is selected by the point rails. If electrofrog, you will need to isolate the two rails coming off the frog, and solder power leads (which I presume is what you call "power supply") to the tracks beyond.
The power lead can have an ON/OFF switch to turn power off the track if you want to.
    Hope this helps....
