    Basic questions to help you...

    What ESC?
What racing are you doing? (Drift, play, touring)
    What Spur Geat?
    What battries?
    What Connectors?
    What Pitch?

I tend to gear it REALLY low for drifting as power is needed more then speed, and a electric motor should always be under geared abit.

well i'm using it mainly for drifting around parking lots etc and the stuff i have on it are:
    m sonic rv 15 esc
    2400 mAH battery
standard team associated spur which i think is a 72 tooth

your probly going to hate me for this, but on the Team Associated website, they have a tooth tuneing guide. And if it was bought new, it should also be in the back of the manual.

But id go with about 21 or 2ish...

something with your motor is causeing overheating. Try re-setting your ESC, and useing the smallest pinion you can find... if that doesnt work, id have a tech guy check the ESC and Motor...
