    Greeting everyone;

    Thanks so much for a place where I can learn more about my newfound hobby of modelling in HO scale trains. I'm about to start a layout that hopefully will look a lot like the Fraser Canyon area of Hell's Gate Canyon in British Coumbia. I worked in that area as a young man and it was always one of the most beautiful landscapes I've ever seen.

    Anyway, I've just finished the benchwork and hope to get started on the track etc. right away.

    Thank you again, and I hope I can ask a few questions from time to time as I learn all about this fantastic new (to me) hobby.

    Regards

    Bud M.

    Welcome Bud. I used to travel up and down the canyon hauling B-trains to Vancouver from Toronto and that area was amazing. Fast moving water and sheer cliffs and a TINY two lane highway. All the best with the layout.

    Bud: Welcome to The Gauge. You picked a good spot to land. I sure hope that you have high ceilings in your house. Modeling the Frasier River Canyon in BC will require a lot of vertical space. Its a fabulous scenic area.
    To those of you who may not be familiar with the location that Bud is talking about, it is one of the big reasons that the Canadian transcontinental railroads were so difficult to build. Well worth seeing if you are ever in western BC.
    Just an additional thought for you, Bud. How about modeling the aerial tram that used to cross the canyon at Boston Bar?

    Welcome Bud. We're getting a regular chapter now in Ontario.
    My uncle was driving through the Fraser Canyon, about at Hell's Gate, when he realized that his car had power steering, power brakes, power everything else, and if his engine quit he was helpless. He had to pull over (and there's almost no shoulder there) and shake until he recovered.
    For everyon else: the canyon is very step and very deep there, almost straight down. CP built on a ledge (that they cut) about halfway down, and changed sides partway along. CN built on the other side and so had to change sides at the same place.

    Well, as usual, I can't find the photo for which I was searching, but this was taken somewhere in the same general neighbourhood.

    And, by the way, :welcome1: to the Gauge.

    Glad to have you on board, Bud!

    Funny thing that you are far away in Ontario modeling the Fraser Valley. I live near the Fraser Valley and I am modeling far away Los Angeles, California.

    Keep us updated on your progress.
