Just checking in. I love to build but I'm not a 3D designer. As a retired graphic designer I can resize and recolor models. There is some great work here.

Just looking to learn more about paper models. I've been building for about 10 years now and just retired. I love scifi and comic book related models. I'm currently looking for old 1930s - 1940s era cars, airplanes, and autogyro models for a comic book idea I'm working on. I plan on building the models to go with custom diorama backgrounds and action figures. I'll photograph the setups, then lay out the comic in the computer and add the text. Right now I've got three different characters to work on. One is modern era scifi, modern version of an old movie serial hero, and a 1930s-1940s pulp hero. I had a computer problem and lost all the research and artwork I'd been working on for the last year so I'm back to square one and have to start over. So I'll be looking for help finding stuff to build over the winter. I'm also glad to help out with repaints and textures.

Textures and the like are my weak point. I have Adobe CS3 and CS5 but can do very little with it, compared to what I have see others do. Here are a couple of Renders of models I have designed. Don't be shy, show us what you've been up too!! :)

Hello and welcome to Zealot! :)

I am training to become a graphic designer and hope to finish my course / studies soon, so we have something in common. ;)

Meanwhile, just take a look around and have fun and enjoy! :)

Since my hard drive mishap this week I don't have a lot of photos except for whats on my Facebook page. Heres a shot of my Midnight Meeting in Gotham City "movie set". I'm working on research tonight to try and recollect what I need to start designing my textures again. Midnight Meeting in Gotham City.jpeg

I like your 3D work Zathros. Thats one thing I've never tried, but I'm pretty much working on my props, "comic book movie sets", custom action figures, for my comic book ideas.

Just some constructive advice for your figure. Do some photo shop on the joints to get rid of the figurine look. here is your photo with some adjustments to show you what I mean. I use Paint Shop pro but I also use gimp as well. Midnight Meeting in Gotham City.jpeg

Thanks, I probably will when I get into making the comics. The photo was when I sold one of my designs on Ebay. I make dioramas and play-sets for sale to other action figure collectors for their displays. For Ebay I just show them as is so the collectors can tell what their figures will look like.

I usually work with 6 inch action figures. I have a few 4 inch but they are too small for me to try and customize. The sets for the 6 inch figures are usually 10 1/2 inches deep by 10 1/2 inches tall by 16 1/2 inches wide. Right now I'm working on a magnetic modular play-set that will use 10 inch by 15 inch modular panels. I have an idea for a 30 inch by 30 inch deserted warehouse 3 stories tall. It will be a while since my system loss on my computer this week. I'll need to redo my lost research, and recreate all of my textures.

    Lee,

    Welcome to Zealot!!

Sorry to hear about your hard drive problem.

The people on this site are really nice and quite knowledgeable about a lot of different aspects to modeling and design. I hope you'll like it here.

So you're into the 1930's- 1940's stuff eh? Art deco? If you haven't heard of the series Crimson Skies check it out some time. It was a video game based off of a board game around that time period. You get to fly around in different types of planes and dock with a zeppelin. Which the Navy actually had pre-ww2. Neat stuff.

Like the Batman & Robin meets Blade Runner theme. Looking forward to more of your expertise displayed here.

    Have a great day!

Thanks Sky Seeker. I'm a big fan of Doc Savage, the Avenger, and the Shadow. I managed to find free ebooks of them on the web. I've been a comic book fan all my life, but prefer the classics Golden and Silver age. I have an idea for a large 4 foot wide by 8 foot tall Pulp Era 1930s-1940s wall display that will look like downtown New York City or similar. Speaking of a zeppelin, I found a paper model of the Goodyear blimp last night that I want to make over into the Gotham City PD blimp from the animated Batman cartoon. I found most of the research on the web last night to recreate my JOKER in the Box that I lost in the system crash. Ordered a 1 terabite backup drive today to try and avoid having this happen again. If you see any free downloads for 1930s-1940s cars, trucks, or autogyros with interiors please let me know. I can rescale them to 6 inch action figure size and customize them for use as props in my dioramas.
    Thanks
    Lee

    Ok Lee will do.

    Will these work for you?

    I hope this helps.

Also, I enjoy the silver age comics. Green Lantern and Magnus the Robot Fighter being my favorites of that time period.

I think I had those before the system crash last week. Downloading and saving to DVD now.

    Thanks Again
