This is my first locomotive repair I've had to do, but I consider myself a handy man so here goes:
I have a Lionel Alaska GP9 from about 04' or 05' that came with a set (Yukon freight I think it was) that I pulled out of storage and tried to run, and it ran for about a foot then clicked and stopped.
The motor would still run, but freely as if not engaging the gears. I found two small gears on the floor by the track that I later found belong right on the shaft of the two motors in the trucks.
When I try to put these gears back on, I roll the wheels by hand to make sure they run freely, but they keep catching on other gears.
Has anyone ever had this problem and/or know how to fix it?
