OK here's the problem guys and please remember i'm an absolute Noob when it comes to railways/roads:).

I have a 42 inch by 32 inch board, i also have plenty of flexi track but more importantly i have the following at my disposal - 2LH long points 2RH long, 1LH med, 6RH short and 7LH short, also one short crossover. I have 1 Single track tunnel and 1 double track tunnel and also a double track viaduct. I would like to make use of as much of it as possible and would like to include on the layout, a shunting/goods yard and also a decent loop for an "inter city" train to run on utilising the viaduct at some point so would be partially raised. Anybody any ideas of a track plan that i could possibly follow to obtain what i want?

    Many thanks

My first recommendations would be to go to the NMRA here to get some ideas from the ground up. There's lots of good basic material there on how to build a layout and a starter layout that they will walk you through. It is really worthwhile...
