So I finally took the plunge and I am designing my own model. I'm using Metasequoia for the 3D work and I'll use Pepakura for some of the layout, but I'm going to use normal formers and attachment pieces and I'll publish it in .pdf format.

But what model? Well, I saw Orbital's Minotaur rocket and I liked the simple design with the contrasting colors so I decided to do that. It's going well. The basic shape is done, and I'm working on the initial textures. I still need to add details like the cable runners and other odds and ends, but I'm very happy with my initial work.

I'm doing the textures in Paint Shop Pro 8, since that's all I have. It's pretty good, and for what I'm using it for it's more than enough.

Anyway, here's a preview of it. I hope you like it.

NOTE: The finished model is available on page 2.

Looks great! Looking forward to following the development (and adding it to my "to do" list...)

Well, I managed to get the main textures done, and I'm finishing up the cable runners on the sides. After that it will be making formers and joiners and I should have the basic model done. I'll probably have to fiddle with the layout for a while and then I'll have to take pictures of my build up for instructions. I'll post the model once it's done so you can play with it. It should be an easy build.

Should this thread be moved to the new Real Space forum instead of Science Fiction?

Oops. Yeah, I posted this in the wrong forum.

Anyway, here's an update: Cable runners are done, and I'm going to work on the formers and joiners tomorrow night.

    Here's a pic too.

Ok, I'm just about ready to release the model. I am going to test build it tonight, and I should have it out in the next couple days. So check back soon and you guys can get it before I post it on my website.

Well, I managed to get it all together but 3 nozzles. Goes together great, but I need to change a few things on the published model. Connectors and stuff like that. Look for pics tonight and a model maybe tomorrow night.

My hat is off to anyone who has the ability to design these things. Those of us with no computer designing skills are left in awe, and we appreciate you offering these models for the rest of us to build.

Yay! It's done! Well, I'm done building it. I have all my notes from the beta build, and I'm going to tweak the model before release. But for now, here are some completed pictures.

    Enjoy.

Thanks, it went together quite easily, and I was really happy with the result. It's not a beginer model, but you don't need to have much experience to get it together. I'm happy with my first design.

I got most of my tweaking done on the 'public release' last night, and I think I can finish the rest tonight. At the lastest I think I can get it out Wednesday night. I'll probably have a big update on my website to announce it too. I'll let you guys know once it's done.

    Done!

Yes, it's done. Here's the model for everyone here. Building it should be obvious, but I've included notes and other hints to help you along. I'll post this on my website as well, so you won't have to worry about this post disappearing.

 Thanks! Looking forward to building this - it'll be a nice break from the 1:50 shuttle and Saturn V, which are turning out to be rather fiddly.

    Thanks again!
