The Grid is the receptor, and the radius rectangle is the signal collector. The ends of that grid should have supported the grid so that it was not touching the Radius Rectangle Reflector Collector. This Collector would channel signal into the grid for reception, likewise, the grid would broadcast into the collector for broadcast. They should never touch, except at attachment points, which would in real life be insulated from each other.

You can see this in Bigpetr's Rhino Render. By not making the end pieces of the grid at 90 degrees, the grid looks collapsed, not suspended in front of the rectangular concave disc. In short, it wasn't assembled properly. Not trying to be put out negative criticism, just assembly fact. The part is not assembled as shown in the diagram, which show what I tried to put into words.. I think Bigpetr would agree. A small part, but 110 lb. Card stock would solve any strength issues, or 67 lb. stock. :)

Thank You guys.

I agree with what Zathros said. This is not an easy model because of tiny parts. Some parts are quite small and thin and could be tricky, so I decided to test build it to experience what a "piece of junk" I have created;)

I did test build and everything is fine. I do not want to hijack this thread so I post some photos in this thread:

I just reviewed the build of the rectangle radar dish. You have done a FANTASTIC JOB! It will make a great addition to the Millennium Falcon. It is not junk by any means! I have approved your upload to the RESOURCE SECTION!

It's not thread hijacking to post build pictures to correct what has done in error, not with malice. Starbuck has a big heart and has shown this over and over.

As the original ..pdf was posted in this thread, with the photos, they became part of it. It is proper to post them here, as the Rhino Render was also. As Starbucks excellent build continues, this information will be necessary.

@ bigpetr: perfect build, perfect model. Additional thanks for these pictures.

This Collector would channel signal into the grid for reception, likewise, the grid would broadcast into the collector for broadcast. You are absolutly right. I did not do the end tabs in the correct angle. Thank you for this information. I appreciate every comment especially if I make a mistake.

Dish-update: I have built a rectangular dish, but I still did not find the optimal paper for the grid. So unfortunately it is far away from beeing perfect. - Sure that I will make a third try. I will show pictures later on, if I have also the original round dish for comparison.
------------------
But I also had some progress in the regular build.
Oh by checking the pics I see that not everything is in shape. I will try to correct the errors.

I used 160gsm (cca 110lbs) for whole dish. The version uploaded to Resources has also this variant of grid assembly you proposed (part 3b):.pngso please try that if it will suit your building style better.

Oh really, I used 250g paper and some parts I glued on even thicker paper to make it stable.:headbange:
Thanks for this explanation - sure I will make another try with 160g or 250g (or both, to see what works better) paper.

Thx to all for the encouraging words. I think the result so far is quite OK.
---------
Next parts and the dish(es). Note that the rectangular dish is version 2 with paper which is too thick.
I will make a 3rd version with the paper recomended by the designer of the dish. (bigpetr)

The building of the rectangular dish is more difficult than the building of the round one.
Both look good and thats why I am considering making another falcon to have both versions on the reck.

Nice. Feels great to see it on the model:). Starbuck, can you please take a picture of your model with rectangular dish like this?:
AtYAKEs.jpg
I would like to compare it with this image, because my rectangular dish looks too big to me when I see it placed on the model.
