I recently got an MDC shay and spare parts off a fellow Modeler, included in the parts was a second and different cab. The first cab has wood sides and square side windows, the second cab is rivetid steel with arched side windows. are both of these MDC parts or did I manage to find an aftermarket piece? I'm also wondering what cab to use, I'm leaning towards the steel one since I haven't seen any of them before and since I'm modeling the late fifties I figure that was what would have been used by then?

You are probably right about the steel cab being used in the late fifties. I'm thinking a logging road might have been more likely to use a wood cab, and a mining company would have been more likely to have used the steel cab, but it probably has more to do with era than operations.

my shay has the steel cab with arched windows... Would rather have a wooden cab, and may scratchbuild a new one.
