Here are some shots of some large scale trains I am working on. They are 1.22.5 scale 2.5 inches between the rails. The only commercial parts are the regauged LGB wheel sets. The truck side frames are cast from my own masters. All the casting of molds and resin was done in a home made vacuum chamber that is run with regular vacuum. It produced more than enough vacuum for this process. All the rest of the models are matte board, card stock, and florist wire.
The matte board is scrap that I get from the framing shop for free. For reference,,,the passenger car is almost 4 feet long and over 5 inches high and 5 inches wide. I have the molds done for the trucks on it but have not made the resin castings as of yet.
I am posting a link to my flicker pages. I hope it is okey.

If anyone would like more information let me know.

    Hi
Why 2.5" thats gauge 3 from an old memory.
At least 45mm track that LGB runs on is readily available.
Of course we want more info:smile:

This is that same scale as LGB but standard gauge hence 2.5 track. LGB is technically narrow gauge.
I will be making all my own drive units for the engines also.
If anyone has interest i will set up a build for one of them.

    1.22.5

A few more pictures of my matte board cars plus a small section of my plastic steam engine, made mostly of PVC piping of various sizes. These can be done in any scale depending on what one models. I enlarged all the drawings to the scale I am working on. Yes 4'0" long drawings can be difficult to work with unless you take over the dining room.
Like i said the materials are all free from frame shops as they are the scrap they will just throw away.(some shops may charge a little).

I could post a build for a simple flat car to get things going. I can email drawings to anyone that would like them if they want to follow along.
I will do all in matte board including the wheels and side frames.
