can sweet oil, lamp oil or 3 in 1 oil be used to create smoke in a HO guage locomotive? I have read in a old MM Mag that keresene can be used but is really very flamable and can be very dangerous. The hobby shops where I live are some miles away and the closest one has part time hours which are very hard for my free time to coincide with. Any and all replies are appreciated.

I would just put the smoke fluid on your list, and wait until you can get to the store. Messing with other flammables just doesn't sound like a good idea...

Hey Leon, believe it or not, there is a place on E-bay that sells "scented" smoke oil for models. You have your choice of coal, oil, pine trees, cinnamon or even chocolate chip cookie scents. Seriously! My girfriend found it on E-bay and I considered it, as I have a couple of Bachmann steamers that smoke that a friend of mines son loves to run.
