A hopper built in 1920 would have an "average" life span of how many years in general? Thank you.

Composite hoppers (wood and metal) - although more common in the WW2 era - would probably have been upgraded at some point after WW2 to all metal. Hoppers could last a while, and then some more in non-revenue/MOW service. I would say you could probably have seen them into the 1960s easily.

Again, depends on road, and depends on use/abuse.
