    Hello everone
this is a build thread I am starting on the new Lad and Dads flyingboat Short Sunderland I will be doing a build thread on this kit so far there isn,t any build thread on this kit so i will be pretty much in the dark in this. After reviewing the kit itself renders me into several ways of attacking this model it is sizable scaled in popular 1/48 wing span of 23 inchs. Now we begin as you can see here are the exploded views of the kit befor parts are cutted out.

I am looking forward to following this thread. 1/48 is my preferred scale but it makes models of large aircraft a challenge to find space for.

    Ok Fellas

In this attachment as you can see the Fuselodge skins have been cut out and joining tabs are in position, The forward cockpit skin has been cemented with former A . I ran into a problem last night durring the build, as per instructions there are 9 fuselodge skins along with 9 verticle bulkheads. I am at a stand still into this problem is solved either there are 2 skins missing in the kit or the instructions are incorect.

The Designer of this kit has been notified on this problem but I will still continue with the build, this is going to be trial and error build but I will give it my 100 persent ability not to be error. here below are the assembly progress. So all stay tune I will keep updates on this flying boat.

So far construction is going well, I am begining to think that the instructions are wrong, The cockpit section had been assembled and reinforced with balsa instead of card stock A little cheating here but it works for me. The second section of the skin has also been reinforced, ready for installation, I will work on cockpit details tonight as the build progresses, The second section of rthe skin in incorporated as one whole peice instead of 2 sections that will join the cockpit skin. here is a attachment

One thing to keep in mind with these kits (lad-n-dad) is they are not done with high end cad software but rather hand drawn so they tend to come with a few fit issues that can be overcome with some creativity - of course its hard to overcome a missing part or two! I will let ya know ASAP when I hear from them.

I just talked to the designer and he indicated that he combined a couple pieces and forgot to change the directions.... There should be only 7 pieces. Do they not fit properly when put together?

What Phil ? You trying to say you like flying boats... who'd have thought it  I love this aircraft too, one of the nicer designs for a flying boat IMO. Deckape, this is already looking very nice, and very BIG - I love BIG:thumb: will follow with great interest.

I was hoping someone would do a build thread on this model. The plane itself was a beauty and what I've seen so far indicates the model will be a beauty as well. If you do half as well on the Short as you've done on your ship models this ought to be a stunner!

Thank you Dear Sir, Just what I thought, the instructions were wrong Im getting the 2 sections in one. Right behind the cockpit skin suppose to be the missing skin this not true, The missing skin has been reprinted into the 3dr skin makeing it one whole skin.So far haveing no probles with the assembly a little fit problems here and there Hey what the hew it needs the bugs worked out LOLlll this kit is comeing along swell I am doing some fine tuneing. The seams are good and tight later on I will airbrush a little antique whit to cover the black joining on the skins you wont be able to see them when I get done I mixed up some extra dark sea gray for the top course for touch up as I go, But in all it is comeing along fine. I will shoot one more picture for the night and start detailing the cockpit section and instal same.

A little trimming here and there to make it right. Some peices are have their share of fit problems it is understandable a new kit that needs the bugs worked out. here is a shot for the night more tommorow, the fuselodge still needs tuneing to shape but it is getting there O logged in 15 hours on this kit all ready. tommorow will continue.

Looks good so far. I got this from Chris's shop a few weeks ago, it's printed off, but I haven't had time to start building. Priorty in life at the moment is to find a job, but I'll be watching often.

    Keep up the good work.

    Ok guys
Back at it again, continueing skinning the fuselodge I have one more peice and it will be complete other than installation of the planes. I have the sub flooring installed to give it strength the planes formers have been attached ans on the photo useing balsa. again haveing fit problems have to trim to shape to get everything in order. the fuselodge sides still need more burnishing to smooth everything out later will touch up with an airbrush. the bottom panes to the fuselodge hull is under size had to make another useing cardstock painters same light gray, as of now installing the planes and finish the fuselodge. front formers have been attached. Burnish as I go, one thing for certain this kit is not for the novice. you have to have some scratch building techniques under your belt or you will be at loss.Over all it starting to look like the sunderland.
