Thanks guys still building... Started on skinning the cockpit assembly, started aft and included mylar panels, ala Goldenbear! This stuff handles a bit wierd, but I didn't want to try and make it a one piece and vac it! The forward parts probably though will be vac'd.

And the skinned fwd section. I think it was designed to to do the after part first then add the panel just at the sides of the cockpit proper. I kinda strayed off the instruction course and inserted the framework assembly after skinning it. This allowed a bit better fit, there is a tiny bit of asymetry, < .05mm but I'll take care of this when doinf the aft fuselage. I'll build that up tail first the work forward. then trim up that section to account for the small deviation at the after part of the cockpit framework/asssembly.

Rick, thinking about what I did here, I think this might've been a probable cause of your hellcat misalignment, or contributory at least. I think my solution to build the after section tail first may be an answer to both our problems. I have the Hellcat model too, and will watch out for that in the future. If you can take solace from your hellcat crunch, it is you saved me from the same fate, Thanks!

Built up after section. Alot of work considering the constant interuption by the wife and kids with their "play by plays" from their respective favourite teams. Guess I have to stop and watch, I can't do too much work in front of the tube, not enough light, too much distraction!

Yeah, I'm considering making a couple of tail sections and placing them first to make sure they are in the right alignment. Have not decided quite yet about that.

Fuselage halves fused together. Starting to look like an aircraft.

The airscoop. Several parts to it. Just a box like affair with a buch of its own formers.

Mounted. It didn't make much sense to mount and build it now but the instructions are calling for it. I'm a little disappointed, the fit was a little off which let a fairly big gap at the ends. I ground down some offending card bits and now it fits. Not much <1/2mm but annoying when it has to come off 3mm thick formers!

Small amount of progress, started on the rudder. Nothing special, no separated flying surfaces like later kits. I curved the edges with the gum eraser and crochet needle and glued one half onto the fuselage.

Port view had a small gap at the movable surface/fuselage interface. In retrospect this would be normal and the tighter side would be the anomaly. I think I'll retrofit the other side but appling a small bead of black paint to Highlight the interface.

Last work for the weekend, started to fit up for the canopy. I built up the card template, used for cutting the plastic, then fit it to the mounting points on the model. It fit with no tweaking!, Then came the Sculpey...

Some polishing, and another canopy "on the hoof". The small fwd windows is incorporated in the fwd windshield. I'll vac tomorrow when the wife is gone...

Carl, it sounds odd but I viewed the vacuforming as something next to rocket science, but once you take the plunge it's laughably easy, and kinda fun. Here is this mornings doings, 2 for the fun of it.
