    Ohkay...............

I used the words "I will build it" and I've already been called to stick with so it seems that the only way out is to actually start building :D

First off all, this is what I have in mind....

I always liked this camo scheme for the Hien and I'm a big fan of 1:33 scale.
Bearing this in mind I contacted the designer and he was gracious enough to provide me original files so I could play with them and enlarge to 1:33.
And here I encountered first problem...
Marek used some kind of area fill to paint camouflage, but it did not match well on the edges (see picture). It became painfully obvious in 1;33 scale that something has to be done...

    Ok.

Enlarged the model to 1:33 scale from the original 1:50.
    Then saw Kancho's Ki-100 and Roman's Ki-84..............

This Hien is not in the same league as those two birds - no cockpit, no wheel wells. Camouflage is flashy but does not have anything to do with real aircraft plus I'm a little uneasy concerning the nose section....
I will still build it (parts are printed out and ready for tomorrow) but decided to build it in 1:48 scale to mask model's shortcomings....

    TTFN :D

    Way to go, Michael! :D

Whatever size you decide upon, it will be a real beauty!

A very attractive color scheme as I see it.

I'm looking forward to your updates on this one!

    Cheers!

You can always claim the camo is for the Kenya Park Rangers squadron. Look forward to the pics !!!

    Ok.
I started building the 1:48 version but it just didn't seem right....
So I also built the 1:33 version to have something to compare :D
Now, the question is - which one should I continue????????????

Yeah man! They both look good! I got DeWayne's white one. Maybe I'll try and scale it up, without the camo maybe it won't be as hard to do as yours.

1:48 has some fitting problems, I guess because scalling the model from 50 to 33 and then to 48 was a little to much....
Had to do that since I corrected the camo only on 1:33 version.....
Tail section for the 1:33 is only dry fitted, hence the gap :?

1:33 looks much better, Rob :D

    Hi Mike

She does look good in her new dress

I look forward to seeing her finished, keep at it mate

    Rob

PS As for getting the kids to bed early, all you have to do is say
"Iam off to wash the dishes now and I might need a hand"
All you will see is a cloud of dust on the horizon as they fight to get up to bed first

    Never tried that...
But then, one son is 11 the other 4 and they know that they are safe from such tasks for a time yet :(
No matter. Yesterday I was able to put couple of hours worth of quality time :D

    Hi Mike

    A fine looking spotty bird
How did you put the body together, butt or strip construction??

I might have a go at this when my desk is clear, try to use Barrys canopy idea and see what happens.

Keep at it mate, more when you can

    Rob,

I usually convert butt joint method to connecting strip, and that's what I did for this Hien as well.

Model goes together surpraisingly well, even after the scale conversion - those slight missalignments are probably caused by me fiddling with the original scale

I just wish Halinski did his Hien in similiar camouflage

Work is going slow, but I'm getting there :D
Now, the only things left are the drop tanks and the propeller.

    Great looking model, Mike! :D

The spotty camoflauge doesn't permit much adjustment on joining up the fuselage sections, and you've done an excellent job of it!

I am also amazed at the short time it took you to build her...superb work!

    Cheers!
