Gary , what do those big panels on either side on the front of your steamer for? I know very little about steam. I mean in real life steamers. thanks

Canada, eh?

Roger, those are smoke lifters, and were often called elephant ears. The theory was that they changed the flow of air over and around the loco, at speed of course, thereby lifting the smoke well above the cab, and affording the crew a better view of the track ahead. Opinions varied as to their usefulness. ;):-D

By the way Gary, nice lookin' loco. NYC has always been a favourite of mine.

Canada, eh?
Looking at Franco's picture, it occurred to me that the GG-1 was the Pennsy's version of a Challenger - and a pretty impressive one, too!

My wife got a new camera for her company... a Canon Powershot 560. I stole it from her for a little while to see if it took better close ups of my trains than our Kodak does.

IMG_0038_low_res.jpg

The Canon is a 7.1 megapixel while our Kodak is a 4. I like the colors and the clarity more of the new one but it still seems just as difficult to make it focus on what you want it to focus on as our other one. The verdict: I still like our old one better!
