    tutorial for the glue-stripe-method.........

    Hi folks,

some days ago I read about a discussion about the pros and cons of the glue-stripe-method and the bulkheads-method. I prefer the glue-stripe-method because it´s not so important that the two formers are 100% congruent !

To explain how it works here a brief tutorial, for the friends it´s boring, enjoy just the pics :)

at first cut out all necessary parts
    [IMG]
    than color the edges
    [IMG]
    form the skin.........
and glue the former from behind in the exact position
    [IMG]
    avoid misalignment !!

that´s the fit without glue !!

    and ...... the final look
    [IMG]

The motor section, it´s necessary to get a real impression because I want to show the motor in my diorama.......the first cylinder........

so friends, tell me your feedback, are those brief tutorials welcome or not ????

    Hi Flu

First, I like your work and the mini-tutorials are very welcome.

    Now, a couple of questions:

One importan point of discussion in my humble build thread about the stubo was when you glue the strip to the tube, as example you sequence is: 1 - glue the tube
2 - glue the strip to the tube
    3 - put the former

or 1- glue the strip to the tube
    2- glue the tube
    3 - put the former.

And another question is: How dot you align the former with the tube end? Because when I have tryed this I have problems in align the former with the tube end. if you do a butt join method this isn't a problem.

Thanks and sorry for "rain of questions".

    it is sequence 1

    Hi Alcides,

first glue the tube, let it dry, glue the stripe inside, let it dry too, put the former in place.
Grind the former with sandpaper, it should fit smooth...........let the section dry and fit it to the counterpart..............

for all, I built six further cylinders, so I have to build six tomorrow, next step will be weathering the motor, does anyone have a link to pictures of the motor of the J2M3 ?????

    best regards FLU

Flu, the Raiden is one of my favorite Japanese aircraft and your craftsmanship is selling me on the idea that I "need" a GPM Raiden kit. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise.

    The motor section...........

    Hi friends,

as I said before, the model is for a small diorama, I want to show a part of a pacific japanese airbase. So I decided to show the motor cowling open. That makes some changes necessary, here are the first pics of the modification.

    the motor without cowling:

the cowling fits well (still without glue)

I'm enjoying your tutorial. It's worth also for many models I have (planes and other).

A question... what did you used for curving? I can see a sort of base in the picture.

    a Tip.........

    Hi milenio3

I use a base of neoprene, about 5mm thickness...........that makes forming easy.........
