I'm glad you made it out of the "black hole" alive. My dad is the only hard-rock miner.
the rest of his family is coal in Paonia/Sommerset. Here is the rundown
Grandpa: 84 (Deceased)- black lung; 57 years coal mining Sommerset-Bowie Mine
Uncle Bill: Deceased ( black lung, cancer) 33 years; Sommerset Mine
Uncle Joe: 74?; retired; leg and back problems; 30 years Sommerset Mine
Cousin Rockie, Bill's son : deceased, cave-in Dec 22, 2000; Paonia mine
Dad: Retired; 16 years Urivan Mine; 28 years Climax; just plain Old and Grouchy
me: 2.5 months Climax Mine; grouchy
