I can't believe what I see on TV about this?
In the past, I've sent some CDs to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand - is anybody on the forum directly affected?

it is very sad that it happened. The conclusion is: when you are on a beach and it shakes under your feet, run like crazy for the higher ground inland.
I hope it will not happen again.

Sadly it will. Simply because there had been no major tsumanis in the Indian Ocean basin in recent times the concensus was the risk was low. And this is when the India is still driving into Asia thrusting the Himalayas ever higher while at the same time subducting under South East Asia. Plus Australia is driving north. From the nosing around on the net and my reading on Geology the situation regarding the crustal plates in the Eastern Pacific is on of the most confusing on Earth. Hope Nobi is OK
