Yesterday's Junkyard Wars featured hill climbers, so they gave a short spiel about calculating gradients, which conveyed more or less the right info. Filled in a couple of holes for the wife, who was watching it with me.

The hill they chose was 40% !!!!!

40% is only about 20 degrees - somehow that doesn't seem too steep. Maybe for whatever they ended up building it is, though.
