A 5x10 is a 25% increase of a 4x8. 22" radius is very close to a 25% increase over 18". Take a 4x8 plan you like and scale everything up by 25% except the distance between parallel tracks. Everything will be a little more relaxed and less crowded, and you will like the layout much better. Passing sidings also gain 25% in length, so your train length gains 2-3 40ft cars - another good thing. But overall, with the increase in radius you can't do much more than you could with 18" radius in 4x8.

The easiest way to do this is redraw the 4x8 plan using the software of your choice. Use Atlas #4 turnouts (really 4.5) or Walters #5 (whichever suits your fancy) in drawing the new plan.

my thoughts, your choices
