    I can't believe that! My dad got me an N scale set when I was six- the cars and track were so small I couldn't even put it on the track or couple the cars together. that set got returned. The HO set he bought for me was DOA, so that went back too. The lionel set he bought worked, and that set the gauge of choice for me over thirty years ago. Today's Lionel starter sets are IMO much better quality that what I had in the 70's, and with all of the equipment available now, it's a great time to get into O gauge.

    I think it would be a better use of time to at least buy a new engine than to try and repair an old one, especially if you're trying to get a setup around the tree for XMas.
