Anyone interested in the Battle Off Samar absolutely should read Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. Gripping story...highly recommended.

Re: cdcoyle's recommendation of "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors"

I would like to recommend "Sea of Thunder" by Evan Thomas.

It follows four men through the pacific war: Admiral "Bull" Halsey,
Admiral Takeo Kurita, Admiral Matome Ugaki, and Commander
Ernest Evans of the USS Johnston.

Their lives intersect at Leyte Gulf.

    Very interesting lives
