Step 1: buy kit - check. I bought 2 just in case I need/want more parts. I might just decide to use both in my kitbash.

Step 2: preliminary planning. Ughh, those are awful colours, we'll definitely be painting this before it's done. Why couldn't it come in half decent colours like the O scale version? More planning will come tonight while babysitting my girls....

Looks like some good competition from what I've seen from the others so far!

I'm working on it, honest! I have pictures too, I'm just having a hard time getting the pictures from the camera onto my computer at work here, first wrong cable, then wrong driver....

I'll wait til I can get pictures up before I describe what I'm doing....

I decided to augment the parts from the signal tower kit with, well, parts from a second signal tower kit. Shown in these 2 pictures is some preliminary mocking up using scotch tape to hold the parts together.

Here's a second version I mocked up using the parts from just one kit. It is doable, and the only reason I didn't do this version is I already had the second kit. It looks like a fun one to do, and could be turned into a "poorhouse". Maybe someone else would be inspired to build this version?

Surgery begins. Here's the front wall of the house prior to glueing up.

As nice as multi-pane windows are, the Atlas ones are kind of clunky and thick. We'll modify them into nicer looking double hung windows. Likewise, some of the double hung windows for the upper portion will be modified into bay windows for what will become a sunroom addition to the house. Oh, and also shown is the back wall of the house.

Here is another mockup as things progress. I decided this is going to be a 1 storey brick house with a garage addition on one side (the side with the truck, before you ask :p ) and a sunroom addition on the other side. Since these pictures were taken, I've glued up the garage and what will become the gable at the end of the main house above the garage, that will be cut up next.

Due to the lack of spare parts to cut up for siding, the garage will have lots of windows, and could be used as a woodshop or workroom etc.

I hope the progress justifies the lateness of posting pictures. :)

13 days left! Hot dang! Don't know if I'll be getting it done in time. My girls weren't cooperating much on model RR nights (Mondays when my wife is gone) and weekends are busy with priorities like getting winter truck on the road now that there's a foot of snow here. I might have time next week to do a bunch since it's a paid week off, but so far there's working on the truck, putting in a closet door, putting a roof on someone's house. Man, holidays are busier than work weeks! :)
