I was going through Smiths Falls last Friday around 4pm. I decided to take a quick trip by the VIA/CP Rail station. Two GP9s pulling a string of hoppers loaded with ballast were just entering the yard. The crew dropped their load, moved from the yard to the north main line, and killed the engine, blocking the north main line

Just as this was happening, a stack/trailer train headed by two AC4400s (#9626 in the lead with #9565 following) was pulling in from Toronto on the south main line.

The crew uncoupled 5 cars and continued down the south main line past the switch to the Brockville sub to the setoff track where the trailers and containers are handled at Smiths Falls. They dropped the cars and then returned to couple up to their train.

But instead of coupling back to the train, they moved through the Brockville switch onto the north main line and hooked onto the two GP9s. All four engines went back through the switch, back onto the south main line and coupled onto their stack/trailer train.

No sooner had the four engines cleared the north main line when another stack/trailer train came in from Montreal with SD40-2 #5766 leading AC4400 #9547 on the north main line just vacated by the two AC4400s and the two GP9s.

With crews changed, both trains pulled out - one heading for Montreal and the other for Toronto. (I think I need to get me some Athearn AC4400s for my layout!) And me only having to walk a bout 100 feet to capture all of this action! It sure was a ho-hum day.
