Hey Shamus:

I have a question for you. What kind and colur do you paint your tracks? Also, where do you paint them. And finally, what about side and abandon tracks?

I like your article on ballast tracks. I printed that for future reference!

Hi Andy,
When all track is down and ballasted, I use rust colored acrylic (Water based) paint for the rails, both sides, even though some cannot be seen. Then I clean the top of the rail with isopropyl alcohol on a cloth to remove any paint.All tracks are done this way, side and abandoned tracks have also got weeds in them, growing up either side.
Ties I also paint with medium chocolate brown mixed with a touch of white, and dry brush it over them.
