    Here's the diesel version.....

    DMIR Diesel Locomotives

And unless you have a small fortune for brass locos you are most certainly looking at some serious kit bashing. It can be done though,I came across a site where a guy has done several DM&IR locos that way.I'll look for it and post it in your thread.

CRed I was wondering if you could answer this question, as I have said, I plan on doing some railfanin' this summer, Maroon and Gold or not, the railroad is still there and I will always LOVE it, besides, I cant see the taconite cars being around too much longer, and that will be a sad day when they leave. Byt anyway, how scheduled are the trains? What I mean is, if I want to set up at Highland, or Rolins, or anywhere, how would I know when to expect a train, basically I want to know how often they run, 1,2,3, or more an hour?

I'm not sure of their schedule, but if you have a scanner I believe you can pick up train traffic with it.Also, here's a couple links to help you out a bit...

Welcome to Twin Ports Railroads and Railfan Page

    http://www.ardc.org/Library/plans/mic/micmaps/rail.pdf

Don't forget to visit the Steelton Yard,it's busy and you'll see all kinds of strange consists that you normally wouldn't up here.

This link might be of particular interest to you....

    Erie Mining

It has a couple of nice shots of Taconite harbor.

Cred, we were there in October 2001. We made a drive around lake Superior. Then we rode the Wisconsin Central excursion back up into Canada, Beautiful trip in the fall. We also took in the Air Force Museum where I took about 200 pictures for a friend who models plains.
Here is some of what I took. I threw in the last one of the ship loading dock.

    Goattee,

Thank you very much for sharing, great photos!Ol' #229 looks like she's ready to pick up another 115 car load of ore to bring to the ore docks in Duluth and Two Harbors.

Love the "3" Spot, what a beauty of an engine!

It's not perfect, the paint is a bit rough and no lights plus #234 had the Elesco FWH not the Worthington FWH,but it runs very well which is the most important thing.I was thinking of re-motoring it with a can motor, but I'm not sure that is necessary after test driving it.Anyways, for what I paid for it I'm not going to complain too much and I can always have it re-painted and lights installed and maybe even DCC & sound down the road.

It's amazing how well it runs and how little wheel wear it has for being built in 1959!

One thing that i'm planning to do on mine is to replace the front truck on the tender with a precision scale one. Its rather crude looking to my eyes as old and weary as they are

I want to add lighting and it would be nice to have the striping also. The paint is only fair, but I can at the very least sand down the more obvious spots and spray them. For $450 I'm not going to complain and as mentioned it runs amazingly well for such an old model. My eyes are probably as old and weary as yours so don't feel bad:).
