Hi, I was over the past few days learning a bit about Facebook. I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to setup a group on Facebook for members here to have another means of making connections, but wasn't sure if anyone else was using it. :)

Not to be too much of a Luddite, but there's an article out today on Yahoo news (and other places probably) that says Facebook and other sites with more "personal"-type information are becoming big harvesting grounds for phishers and their scams...

Nothing like a few rotten apples to spoil all the fun...

There are those of us older folk that have little use for places like Facebook, YouTube or MySpace. Too much stuff going on there that is of no interest to me for me to waste time there. Thank goodness no one has included me in their "friends" list, because I wouldn't know how to find them if I was. The only time I go anywhere near these sites is if someone sends me a link.

Facebook was wonderful before they tried to be like MySpace. It was a great way for college students to keep in touch with each other. At one time, when I joined, they required an e-mail address from a participating college to join. Later they allowed high school students to join if they were at a school connected with a college. Now they allow every Tom, Dick, and Harry on there and it turned to muck. I used to check it every day, now maybe once a week. If you're not on Facebook, you're not missing a damn thing.

I'm on facebook. It has gone down hill...but I don't think that it is from being opened up to everyone. I think it's because of the silly features they've added. It is a great way to keep in touch with my friends and serves sort of like a telephone/email directory for me.

I'm not exposed to any sorts of schemes as I have my setting set to private except for people at my university. I'll add you Mad Hatter.

Careful there, Don, I'm half your age and also think YouTube is worthless. I don't even click links people send me.

Yeah, I'm old enough to still prefer eye to eye conversation. there's something about talking with a picture, or a video, that seems a little odd, and keyboards and I don't get along that well.

Thanks for the responces. I've sort of just stumbled across it thanks to my sister.

I was invited by a friend at UC Davis working on her Doctorate. I don't post a lot and none is train related. More a resumé of my professional work history. Ain't much. 27 years of doing the same self employed thing and then my Wire Service (AP-UPI) jobs before that. The big news being that now I'm on disability. spelled poor.

So I got your message and have added you to my friends network.

I'm not "on" youtube...but I occasionally drop by to see videos of the Eureka, the 315, british trains, and other cool things.

Since I got a camcorder for Christmas...I'll probably be joining and loading many videos of the 765 and other steam locomotives.
