Iran had the Phoenix Missile and sold/gave several to USSR, which made both the Phoenix and it's lauch platform obsolete. The F-14 and the Phoenix were cold warriors and when the "enemy" new the frequencies to jam they were destined for the bone yard. It's hard to see a prety bird go.

But we've still got a few here in Pensacola--not in flying status--but still completely intact. We shined one up and put it on static display at last weekend's open house and was a major draw... Put a stair up so folks could climb up and check out the cockpits.

Nice to be able to see and touch one (as well as all the other cold warriors) daily as a remeinder of my time in the fleet.
