The E-44 (E44) was an electric hood unit built by GE in the early 1960s. It appears as a massive, blocky C-C locomotive with a high nose. Its distinguishing feature is its roofline, which is quite high over the entire length of both hoods. The cab is lower than the hoods, and the pantograph is on top of the cab.

66 were built, all for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

The end of electrified freight service on Conrail wasn't the end for all the E-44s. In 1983, New Jersey Transit bought eight of them. They did not see any revenue service.

In 1986, they sold all eight to Amtrak. They were painted in MOW colors; sources disagree on whether or not they actually saw service.
