here is an idea I stole from some mini series spaceships that came out about 10 years or so ago.
use a clear plastic sheet with hole slots cut in it and a black box stand under it.

Now that is something I really like. Simple and striking at the same time. Very clever!

Thanks for sharing this!

Tig welding wire on the inside works incredibly well too. A little bit more planing though. :)

It is some sort of flight display. This is a very cool idea. It looks as if the ship is floating in mid air, no visible (ordinary) stand. Ertl once provided it with their X-Wing and Vader TIE kits; I have both of them and it looks awesome. Thank you for sharing! :thumb::thumb::thumb:

yea, thanks every one,
I was just thinking, to keep it paper, double layer cardboard, with label printed starry /nebula stuff on it could be easier than clear plastic and easier to cut slots in.

On a completely different place, I did the same thing with a translucent sheet of plastic with Saran wrap glued to look like whitecaps. The person I did it for really liked it. It was just the ship, and the sailboat setting in the cutout. The mounting post came out through the keel. The water had no border. :)
