Decales

Does anyone know of a way to remove the decales on frieght cars so you can replace them with others Re(circus)

My favorite thing for removing decals is a product called Easy-Lift-Off... or ELO...(I believe it's made by Polly Scale)
This stuff will also pemove paint, but if you put a little on a Q-tip, & gently scrub off the decal, & then wipe the model with a wet rag, the decal will come off without damaging the paint.
Before applying new decals, you'll (usualy) need to apply a clear gloss finish to the surface.

For simply removing small letters/numbers, these can be CAREFULLY scraped away with the point of an x-acto knife.

I am using Joe's Gel which works great. It takes about 15 minutes to start working and it doesn't destroy the paint. I used the gel to remove numbers on cars and engines and even removed the Southern Pacific lettering on a LL SD9 to change it to a Northwestern Pacific engine.
