At least you were ambitious enough to walk far enough away that it's in the background. I had to leave mine nearby so that I could race to the next photo location. :-D
I had originally wanted to buy a Vega, as I had owned nothing but Chevs up to that point, but I couldn't afford one. If I recall correctly, a similarily-equipped Vega was $3300.00, while I got the Datsun, "loaded", for $2200.00. "Loaded" simply meant that there were no options, except for a radio, which I got thrown-in at half-price. I later added an 8-track. ;) We liked that car so much that my wife bought a '71 sedan, used, and I later bought two wrecks for parts.

That is an awesome looking car and a great start to the thread!

    Gary
Great looking Lackawanna unit! I also really like the highway bridge! I see that you answered my question as to the origin of the bridge. I also like the planking of it for roadway use. We have several old bridges around here that were built for other purposes that had wood planks placed on them to covert them to a roadway bridge.

    Tom
    That is a neat scene!

    Herc
    Sweet looking NS unit!

    Jeffery
    Nice looking KCS hood units!

    Charlie
    Nice Penn Central proto shot!

    Ralph
    Nice line up of locos!

    Wayne
    Great set of proto shots!

    Deano
    Cool looking unit!

    Charlie
    Another neat proto shot!

    Gary
    That bridge looks awesome!

    CN Nutbar

I have not been here for a few weeks. Between work and getting ready for the Holidays time has been sparse. I have been modeling I just have not had time to take photos and do much forum posting.

Here are some of the projects that have been keeping me busy lately.

I have 5 Athearn Blue Box kits of TOFCs to weather. I started with the decks. Below is a comparison between a weathered deck and one that has not been touched.

The cars were acquired on EBay. That is why they still have the hook and horn couplers. They will be changed to Kadees. I also have 2 Athearn RTR TOFCs. On them the decks are already wood colored but I will still do some weathering.

Here are the coil car hoods and wheels I am weathering. The coil cars are in the background waiting for me to start weathering the trucks.

Finally got some old pics on the scanner.
This first pic is of a pair of GTW "pushers." Trains used to stall out on the hill entering Valparaiso IN all the time. I was sitting at home listening on the scanner when this one happened in the mid 80's

    GTW Pushers.jpg

Here is a pic of a couple of Chessie units passing the old Porter tower at the Porter interchange in Chesterton IN. This used to be a hot railfan spot, the tower is gone now:cry: That's my step mom and little bro in the background with my future love machine:mrgreen:

KEEP 'EM COMING FOLKS, lets make the last WPF thread of the year a real blowout!:thumb::mrgreen:

    *******************************************************
Charlie:wav: , THANK YOU! , i hope to be around a little more often soon, word is were going back to 9 hour days at work after the first:mrgreen: , that will give me a little more time:winki: .

    Tom:wav: , THANKS!

Kurt:wav: , that engine is the FIRST BLI engine i ever bought:thumb: , I've had it for a couple years, and posted it a few times:winki: . though its not a UP, its one of my top ten favorite engines:mrgreen: .

    Kevin:wav: , GOOD EYE:thumb: , YOUR 100% CORRECT, that engine WAS an LS&I for a period of time:winki: .

    MY STORY ON GBW #2407...
GBW #2407 now resides at the IRM:thumb: . I was fortunate enough to have been in the cab of it:mrgreen: , though for the last couple of years the cab has been closed to the public:frowns: . i go to the IRM EVERY YEAR, and like an old friend, i really enjoy seeing this unusual/unique engine. below is a pic of it i took last year, and also the plate that hangs on the side of it. i really hope you folks can read the plate, that engine has a neat history and is worth taking a second to read about it:winki: .

GBW(was an ALL ALCO RR) bought #2407 from LS&I with big plans for using it on there longer runs, sadly the engine was so wore out they only used it on a couple short runs, and for switching...the engine sat in the yard for most of the end of its life:frowns: .

BLI put out GBW #2407 on its first run of the RSD-15's, and when i seen it i just had to preorder one to ensure I'd get it:thumb: . since i have visited the REAL GBW #2407 for years, having a model of it really gives this engine sentimental value to me, i would NEVER part with it:winki: .

GAA! I can't tell you how many times I have almost been ran off the road because of those terrifying farmer's implements! Someone around here has one that takes up all 4 lanes of traffic... and he moves it from field to field throughout the summer.

    Ack!!

    CITY SLICKER!!!! fence1

One of my big farmer buddies says that all you guys are really friendly. You all wave all the time when you finally go past his equipment. But he feels real sorry for you all. Seems that you all have lost all of your fingers except one!!!! bounce7
