I just got this one finished, it still has to be weathered, but I put a decoder in it, and it is in service on the layout now. I installed the bell above the cab, moved the headlight to the nose, added the winterization hatch and moved the horn to the long hood. Now it looks like a real CP locomotive.

And from the front, I did the number boards on this locomotive by scraping off the numbers on the Kato boards, and decaling over them. I think it worked out ok. It's easier than trying to cut that small black decal to fit, then numbering it.

Re-numbering Number Boards

That's a great idea Mike!

I have a set of ATSF F3s where I need to renumber the "tail end" A Unit. I want to label it 21C, I could spend 55$ for another A Unit to get the proper numberboards (at least there are 2 sets in the box), but I hadn't thought of scraping off the numbers and decaling over it.

Where did you get the decal? Did you dull coat the numberboard before installing it?

And... nice job on 5893.

The decals were just the ones that came on the sheet from Micro Scale. The smallest ones on that sheet!
I didn't dull coat the number board first, but I did after they were on.

Mike... I had meant to ask this when I visited you in Calgary, what's your source for the extra/super detailing bitz for your locomotives? I'm going to see if I can manage a conversion of an SD70Mac into an SD75I, but it will depend on what sorts of bits and pieces are available.

These conversions look great, and you've just shown me that it is actually possible to custom decorate lighted numberboards!! :)

I just got it weathered, I still have to do the trucks. All I used for this one was pastels.
